During the Crusades, the Knights of St. John fought the Saracens for the holy land. They braved flaming, glass bombs. Many knights were burned alive; others risked their lives to save their comrades from fiery deaths. They were awarded a cross similar to the one firefighters wear today.
The City of Salmon Arm is widely known for it's large populations of waterfowl. Two Grebes are depicted on the original emblem.
In 2012, the SAFD emblem was changed to commemorate the Centennial and hosting the BC Vounteer Firefighter's Seminar. This emblem featured the Salmon Arm Wharf, one of the more recognizable lanmarks in the city.
In 2014 the Warf Emblem was abandoned for a more contemporary design in keeping with Fire Departments across the province.
The City of Salmon Arm Volunteer Fire Department serves the City of Salmon Arm by providing fire protection, prevention, public education and other related services. The Department is a composite of career and volunteer assets consisting of 4 career and up to 80 volunteer members stationed at 4 halls in the protection area.
